Owner-builder support

Owner-building but want a licensed set of hands on the hard parts? We take on defined stages — structure, lock-up, fit-out — and leave you the bits you want to do yourself.

We have done exactly this

At Sandy Beach we gutted and rebuilt the back half of a home for an owner-builder — new structure through to tiling, kitchen and interiors, with four trades co-ordinated across it. The owner kept the parts they wanted and handed us the parts that needed a licence and a bit of scar tissue.

Where the line usually falls

Most owner-builders are happy painting, landscaping, tiling and fitting out. Where they want help is structural work, anything at height, wet-area waterproofing, and pulling a trade schedule together so the job does not stall waiting on one person.

Be honest with us early

Stage-based work only helps if it is planned. Tell us what you intend to do yourself before we quote, and we will scope our part around it rather than pricing a full build and discounting it.

Good questions

Questions about owner-builder support

Do you work with owner-builders?
Yes. We take on defined, separately priced stages — structure, lock-up, fit-out — and leave you the work you want to do yourself. Tell us what you plan to do before we quote, so we can scope around it properly.
Do you manage the subcontractors?
Yes. Our trades are the same names on every job, and we schedule and supervise them. You get one person to call, and you’re never left standing between a tiler and a cabinetmaker working out whose problem it is.
Do you take on small jobs?
We started as carpenters and we still enjoy the smaller work — decks, staircases, a laundry, a floor. If it’s a good job with good people we’ll look at it. If we’re not the right fit we’ll tell you and point you somewhere useful.
